Bsp zipping..........

Any help with any aspects of Half-Life 1 & 2 editing here.

Bsp zipping..........

Postby Marquis on Thu Oct 27, 2005 8:48 pm

I've been trying to bzip a map (de_church_marq2) to includes the materials, as well as the custom models and sounds.

I've been using pakrat instead of bspzip as it gives me an error saying my map is version 20 and not 19... :smt089

Pakrat appears to add all the relevant files but when I try the map all custom materials/texture dont work? :smt102
The custom models and sound do work however?!!!! :wtf:

Any help will be appreciated!

You should be able to reopen the .bsp and you can double check to see if the materials are really in there are not.

Are you saving the bsp before you close out? Are you running the latest sun java?

You should be able to open the console and see what the error message is when trying to load the textures.

You can also try winbspzip.exe, its a huge pain in the ass to use, but it works and there is a tut for in the tuts section.

When I look at the zipped map , I can see all the textures, sounds and models! :?

Bspzip and winbspzip both give me an error saying my map is version 20 and not 19! :o

I read on the cannonfodder forum that the reason for the error was due to new steam updates. New bsp's are v20 and bspzip works on v19 or below? :!:

I read that, seems to be no update. I wonder why it was never updated, the orginal post was back in sept 24?

I guess the only thing you can do is go old school and include the custom content in a .zip or .rar file. Remember though you will need a .res file for this method.

It sure is a pain, I have already released the map with a zip containing all the custom stuff (including the res file).

The problem is that that SoopaFlyYT of punk ass fraggers said he would make it a featured download on the PAF site and put it on there CSS Servers if the custom stuff was bspzip'd! damn!

I'll just have to wait...... :x

A .RES file is a resource file that lists all the textures, sounds, models and materials for a client to download when using the sv downloadurl switch in you server.cfg file. :?

Map Analyst

Postby Jodokus on Tue Nov 01, 2005 1:20 pm

Instead of using bspzip you should use Map Analyst MAN.
With this tool, all needed files will be automatically included
into your BSP file.

You can download it here

No, Version 20 is quite OK, even for MAN. It is not an error msg.

The SDK produces a BSP as VBSP Version 19. But if one loaded
it into the engine and made 'buildcubemap' than the engine overwrites
the BSP file and taged it with Version 20. So don't mind.

Sweet Jodukus, I'm a while away from distributing my map but this map analyst tool looks sweet indeed 8)

I'm tempted to do a full compile right now just to try this thing out :o
