Model Requests (Includes Possible Commision)

Postby DRX on Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:21 am

Hey guys,
I'm mapping like crazy in order to hit the next week deadline for L4DMaps.com's Mapping Challenge. I haven't had as much time to model props for my map, and therefore I'm in need of a little help.

I'd be willing to pay a small commission for those who go the extra mile, such as setting up gibs, rigging, texturing, etc.

I'm in need of an modular icicle model that would hang from the sides of buildings, etc.

Also, I need an ice axe. If you rig this to match the crowbar bones in Left 4 Dead 2 so that it uses the same animations, I'll make sure you are fairly compensated.

Thank you!

I could totally make a tight ass cutout of those icicles in that picture, but that's about it. I only just started modeling so I don't have the skills to model that ice axe. The icicles, maybe, but skinning is another story. Still kind of bad at that.

Perhaps the iceaxe from the hl2 beta content would do?

Come on Nub it's easy. It's just a bunch of primatives and rigging is super easy once you see past all the strange buttons and glowing polygons. I'd have done it if I had L4D 2 and it wasn't my first day back at uni :>

I think I'll have a go at these, I've got a couple hours every day of free time at school alone. I'm assuming you want gibs for the icicles, right?

I can make you that icepick, only I can't rig it yet. But I'll look into that.

The icicle model could also very well be a sprite, rite?

I can bash out the ice axe at uni tomorrow but you'll want somebody else to compile it. I'm assuming its for a weapon replacement? Somebody else will need to compile it, any volunteers?

Thanks guys for the offers.

Yes.

It's not a weapon replacement, it's actually a brand new weapon. Left 4 Dead 2 allows for custom melee weapons. It will basically use the crowbar's animations, with slightly different sounds. In terms of compiling, I can compile it myself. I would preferably have it unwrapped and ready for skinning, but if its just a model that will do.

Now, if you get me an .SMD, a UVW layout, and bones rigged to the crowbar, I will pay you the moneyz, as long as it works correctly.

If need be, I can upload the decompiled crowbar for those who need it for reference. I would basically import your model into the crowbar scene, line them up, delete the crowbar, and then skin the crowbar bones to the ice axe model, then export it out.

Also, it would be great if you could get this to me in a format that all programs understand (like Collada) or any sort of file 3ds Max can open.

Thanks guys! I really hope one of you steps up and does something super, that way you get paid and I get a great looking model for my map ;)

Redistributing Valves property is illegal. :smt018

I can export smds, unwrap the UVW's, and rig it but I have not gotten any model decompilers working on my comuter yet so it would be great if you could upload the decompiled crowbar. If you'd like, I can also have a go at skinning it.

Would an .obj work?

You mentioned you use max, so I can send you a modelled/unwrapped/textured/normalmap (baked from highpoly) asset and, if you would be so kind as to PM/email me the decompiled crowbar's reference.smd, I can rig it to the crowbar skeleton for you. I can send you this as a .max8 or .max2010 or .obj, doesn't matter as we both use max.

You can find my portfolio in my forum sig, PM me about the commission if youre happy with this arrangement (also any poly/texture resolution budgets would be nice.)

That's fine.

Redistributing Valves property is illegal.

I'm not going to even warrant giving this with a response....Oh what the hell.

It's not like someone could drop it into any game and it would work. It's simply reference geometry and bones. It would take a mad amount of reverse engineering to even get it to work in Left 4 Dead 2, since that would be all I am sending out. Bones. And a ref crowbar model that shows how it should line up.

It's not like I'm selling full assets, or releasing them to anybody. I'll only give them to those who are willing to model.

Glad to hear it. I was like, "Waaaaah..." I understand its not okay to just copy content from one game to another, but I thought that was a little silly. I look like an ass now (I probably am one).

Anywho, any updates on modeling from anyone? Please let me know asap, I need them by Friday at the latest.

I might try the ice, but no promises.
